Gold Olive

Grzegorz Szumowski (Poland)

He was born in Ożarów Mazowiecki in 1946. He performs portrait cartoon, and has created many satirical portraits which have found their place in private collections, Polish and foreign galleries. He cooperates with Polish and the foreign press.

 Besides, he illustrates books, fairytales and children books, as well as educational books and he designs book covers. He has participated in exhibitions in Poland and abroad: Warsaw (1990), Prague (1993), Trento Italy (1997), Art Gallery in Bergisch- Gladbach (1998), Theatre of Modrzejewska in Legnica, (2002). He has won 100 Polish and world prizes.

 The most significant are: Grand Prix of the 25th International Nasreddin Hodja, Turkey (2005); Grand Prix of the International Spain Biennale of Cartoon, Spain, (2004); Grand Prix of the IX Porto Cartoon – World Festival, Portugal (2007); Gold Medal – Satyrykon, Poland, (2008) and also in Vianden, Manisa, Bursa, Ancona, Knokke Heist, Trento, Tokyo, New York, Zagrzeb, and other places.

Myung Lae (South Korea)

He was born in Seoul, South Korea in 1967. He studied Visual Communication at the University of Hannam in Korea and Animation at Ecole Emile Cohl in France. He is a cartoonist and an animation artist. He teaches Animated Cartoon and Animation at the State University of Kongju.

Valeriu Kurtu (Germany)

Valeriu Kurtu was born in 1956 in the town of Ungeny on the border of Moldova and Romania. He attended the Kishinev art college before enrolling at the Moscow Institute of Cinematography (WGIK) department of cartoons, where he graduated from in 1982. 1986 – Member of FECO (Federation European Cartoonists Organizations). 1987 graduated the course for  producers and script writers (Goskino), Moscow. As a screenwriter and director he made seven animated films.

 During this entire time he also made caricatures, published in leading satire magazines in Russia (Krokodil), Germany (Eulenspiegel), Romania (Urzika), and his homeland of Moldova (Ciparusch). 1990 – Member of Art union of USSR and Moldova, 1994 – Member of Journalist Union of Moldova.

 Since 1994, when he already was a renowned artist, Valeriu Kurtu expanded the scope of his personal and artistic life and relocated to Berlin with his family. Now he is the owner of art gallery (Kurtu – Kunst) in Berlin with his wife, also artist, and continues to work successfully for a large number of newspapers and magazines: Partner, Gartenfreund, Stiftung Warentest, Europa – Express (chiefartist). Over the course of his life, the artist has so far been awarded more than a hundred prizes, medals and diplomas of international exhibitions, as well as contests of caricaturists in many countries. Since 2010 he has been organized and leaded the “International Berlin Cartoon Contest.”

Serpil Kar (Turkey)

She was born in Zonguldak, Turkey. Graduated from Uludağ University, Faculty of Education, Department of Art Teaching from the shop classes of Avni Yamaner, Eyüp Ömer Yüksel, Ergun Özman.

 Her works are generalized on cartoons and oil painting on canvas. She opened numerous solo exhibitions and participated in group exhibitions of cartoon and painting. She pursues her works in her studio in Antalya and teaches painting and cartoon.

 Member of Turkish Cartoonists Association and Anatolian Cartoonists Association. She works as art teacher in Adana.

Pawel Kuczynski (Poland)

Pawel Kuczynski was born in 1976 in Szczecin. In 2001 he graduated from the Department of Graphic Arts of the Academy of Fine Arts in Poznań. As an illustrator he has collaborated with different Polish press titles. He is a member of the Association of Polish Artists-Cartoonists (SPAK).

He has been preoccupied with satirical drawings since 2004, and has since won a record number of international contests for satirical drawings in Poland and abroad: in Belgium, Brazil, China, Colombia, the Czech Republic, Iran, Italy, Japan, Korea, Portugal, Romania, Russia, Serbia, Slovakia, Spain, Syria, Taiwan, Turkey, and the United States.

Angel Boligan (Mexico)

Angel Boligan was born in Habana in 1965. In 1992 he moved to Mexico. He draws for the newspaper El Universal and the satirical magazines Conozca Más and El Chamuco.

 He is a member of the Cartoonist Group “Cartooning for Peace” and won worldwide more than 150 prizes in cartoon contests.

Elena Ospina (Colombia)

Painter, illustrator and cartoonist born in Colombia. She began her work as an illustrator at the newspaper El Espectador. Over the last twenty years she has worked on numerous editorial and advertising projects in America and Europe.

 She has won several awards in humor and illustration contests, including the open theme First Prize at the International Ricardo Rendón Cartoon Contest Hall in Colombia, and a similar award at the general section of the International Humor Biennial of San Antonio de los Baños, Cuba.

Valentin Georgiev (Bulgaria)

Born in 1970 in Bulgaria. Graduated from the University of Veliko Tarnovo, major in paintings in 1995. National and international cartoon contests, has won many prizes.

Onur Olguner (North Cyprus)

He was born in Nicosia in 1985. Graduated from Middle East Technical University Faculty of Architecture and completed his post graduate study  on “Building Energy and Environment Performance Modelling” in cardiff University.

 “He pursues his project studies  at Olguner Architecture Office in which he is the founder shareholder and works as lecturer at Eastern Mediterranean University.

Andrey Klimov (Russia)

Born in 1963 in Zheleznovodsk (USSR). Cartoons were published in various newspapers and magazines. He has won several awards from national and international cartoon contests.

Geo Gruia (Romania)

One of the youngest cartoonists of Romania, attending cartoon lessons of the world famous Romanian cartoonist Nicholas Lengher.

Geo Gruia participated in international cartoon contests in Romania, Hungary, Russia, Iran, Syria, Japan, Israel, Poland, Serbia, Italy, Spain and his works were exhibited and took place in the albums of these countries.

Hülya Erşahin (Turkey)

She was born in İstanbul in 1962 and graduated from Mimar Sinan University, Faculty of Architecture in 1985. She worked as architect in various firms and pursued his career in family – owned enterprise. In recent years, he gave weight to the painting, opened personal exhibitions and participated in group exhibitions.

She began drawing cartoons in 2008. Her works were published in various national and international albums. She won three cartoon contest awards, two of them from international ones. She is married and mother of one child.

Kürşat Zaman (Turkey)

He was born in Antalya in 1974. He completed his elementary and secondary school educations in Antalya and graduated from Marmara University, Faculty of Fine Arts, Department of Interior Architecture in 1997. He was drawing pictures since his childhood but he had focused on cartoon art since 2003 and began participating in the contests.

 He won many prizes in various degrees in national and international cartoon contests. Besides cartoons, he is dealing also with painting. He opened two solo exhibitions at Istanbul Tekel (State Monopolies) Art Gallery (2002)  and State Gallery of Fine Arts in Antalya (2004). Currently, he is working as designer at a decoration firm in Antalya.

Mehmet Kahraman (Turkey)

He was born in Bulgaria in 1961 and migrated to Turkey in 1978. His cartoons were published in humor magazines and humor pages of some newspapers. He illustrated books for children and satirical stories.

 He opened his solo cartoon exhibition “Kırkbeslik” in 2006 and published his first cartoon album “Mefonten” in the same year. He won 98 prizes of various degrees in national and international cartoon contests.

Muammer Bilen (Turkey)

He was born in Ankara in 1971 and graduated from Hacettepe University, Faculty of Fine Arts, Department of Graphic Arts. Many publishers were prepared to visual design and animations.

 Awarded various prizes in many cartoon contests he participated, his works were published in cartoon albums. Member of Turkish Cartoonists Association.

Murat Gök (Turkey)

He was born in France in 1976. He moved to and settled in Yalova after living 8 years in France. He started drawing cartoons in his secondary school years. His works were published in several magazines and newspapers.

 Some of the prizes he won: Third Prize in Caf Caf Humor Magazine Cartoon Contest; Third Prize in 1st National Cartoon Contest of İzmir Birds Paradise; First Prize in 1st Cartoon Contest of Yalova Municipality.

Murat Sarı (Turkey)

He was born in Antalya in 1980. He completed his elementary and secondary school educations in Antalya and graduated from Süleyman Demirel University in 2001.

 He won the “Special Prize of Burdur Municipality” in the 26th National Cartoon Contest with the theme “Relations; Historical Artifacts – Museum – Humans” organized by the Governorship of Burdur – Directorate of Burdur Museum.

Ruhi Bulduk (Turkey)

He was born in Şereflikoçhisar of Ankara in 1966. He completed his elementary and secondary school educations in Bursa and graduated from Ankara University, Kastamonu Vocational High School’s Department of Machinery in 1987.

 He is working as constructive draftsman in Robert Bosch Factory. He is involving with cartoon art since 1990.

Saeed Sadeghi (Iran)

He was born in 1974 in Jahrom – Iran. He graduated as an art teacher from Tehran Art University. Activity in cartoon, painting and graphic design. Participation and prizes in international cartoon contests. A cartoonist in national newspaper and magazines. Vice President of Federation Cartoonists Organizations FECO – IRAN.

 Personal cartoon exhibition in “Iranian Cartoon Houses” a permanent Tehran – Iran (2010); Jury member of the International Book Cartoon Festival – Iran (2011); Jury member of the National Festival of Cartoon Ehsan Shiraz – Iran (2007 and 2009).

Shahram Rezaei (Iran)

Born in the village of Mardan – Ardabil – Iran in 1978. University degree in painting, design and illustration. Painter, designer, and cartoonist. He won 161 awards in national and international contest.

Yuri Manaev (Russia)

Yuri Manaev has won many prizes international cartoon contests:  Grand Prix of the International Umoristi a Marostica Cartoon Exhibition (Italy); Gold Prize of the International “Yomiuri Shimbun” Cartoon Contest (Japan); Gold Medal of the International “Satyrykon” Cartoon Contest (Poland); Second Prize of the International “Humorfest” Cartoon Contest (Italy); Honorary Award of the International “Tehran” Cartoon Biennal (Iran); Honorable Mention of the International “Simavi” Cartoon Contest (Turkey).

Zhang Bin (China)

He was born in Harbin (China) in 1955. He has been living in Guangzhou since 2001. He is a Senior Editor of Guangzhou Daily. Member of China Artist Association and Vice - President The Institute of News Cartoons of China. His works appeared in more than 5000 newspaper and magazine in China. His works show in more than 30 exhibit in Japan, Belgium, Korea, Iran, Turkey, Macedonian, England, Indian, Portugal America in 1990-2007.

 His works won more than 39 prizes. Some of these awards are: 1993 – Chinese Cartoon Exhibition “Topnotch Prize” (China); 1994 – The 3th International Daejeon Cartoon Contest “Silver Prize” (South Korea); 1998 – 9th China News Cartoons Contest “First Prize” (China); 2003 – 20th Aydın Doğan International Cartoon Contest “Award of Success” (Turkey); 2006 – 1th Ken Sprague International Political Cartoon Contest “First Prize” (England); 2006 – 15th Daejeon International Cartoon Contest “Gold Prize” (South Korea).
