OSVALDO DE SOUSA (PORTUGAL)

INTERNATIONAL JURY PRESIDENT

Investigator of national and international cartoon; curator of more then 300 exhibitions and author of more than 40 studies and biographies of graphic humorists. Natural do Porto (1954). Licenciado em História pela Faculdade de Letras de Lisboa.

 Cultural Historian and Production in Graphic Humor field organized more than three hundred shows, conferences, festivals and caricature exhibitions nation wide (including Macau), Spain, France, Germany, Croatia, Denmark, Brazil, Costa Rica, Switzerland, Turkey, Poland. Presshas published art criticism, chronicles, as well as interviews and feature articlesin the cultural sphere.

NİDAİ GÜNGÖRDÜ (CYPRUS)

INTERNATIONAL JURY MEMBER

He was born in Limassol in 1958. After his education in Cyprus, he graduated from Ankara State Architecture and Engineering Faculty (now Gazi University) as a civil engineer.

In April 1985, as a temporary construction engineer, the initiative started at Girne Municipality. Later, he worked as the President of the Municipality of Urban Development, Construction and Water Works and Sewerage, respectively.

On January 1996 he became the Head of the Municipality of Girne. He has represented Girne Municipality as a Manager and Technical Staff at various dates, both in Turkey and abroad.

Güngördü is also married and has two children in various non-governmental organizations in Girne. He knows English and Greek well.

AHMET AYKANAT (TURKEY)

INTERNATIONAL JURY MEMBER

He was born in Delemenler Village of Alaşehir in 1950. He worked as philosophy teacher in Orhangazi, Karacabey and Bursa and worked as prelector in Uludağ University Department of Classroom Teaching.

 His first cartton was published in “Günaydın Ustura” magazine in 1969. His cartoons took place on the pages of daily and weekly newspapers such as Demokrat İzmir, Yeni Adana, Orhangazi Yenigün, Hedef, İznik Doğuş, Bursa Hakimiyet, Bursa 2000 and Hürriyet. Beginning from 1973 he had solo exhibitions in İstanbul, Cyprus, Holland and South Korea.

 He has three cartton albums, namely: “Çizgi ile” (1988), “Nasrettin Hoca’nın Torunları: Ahmet Aykanat” (2002), “Ahmet Aykanat Karikatür Albümü” (2003); he won more than 60 prizes in national and international cartoon contests.

ARİF A. ALBAYRAK (CYPRUS)

INTERNATIONAL JURY MEMBER

Arif A. Albayrak was born in Paphos (Cyprus) in 1956. He started drawing cartoons in 1989. His cartoons were published in several magazines and newspapers such as Ortam, Yeni Düzen, Kıbrıs, Akrep, Lololo, Tabipler Birliği and Hekimce, Yeni Düzen Sanat, Adres Kıbrıs.

His cartoons were exhibited in Cyprus, Turkey, Czech Republic, Belgium, Canada, Italy, Japan, Macedonia, Germany, England, Israel and Croatia which were later published as a cartoon album. The artist who is a member of both the “Cyprot Turkish Cartoonists’ Association” and “Federation of Cartoonists’ Organization” (FECO) was also a selection committee member in various national and international cartoon contests.

He won many awards in various national and international cartoon contests.

DERMAN ATİK (CYPRUS)

INTERNATIONAL JURY MEMBER

He was born in Limassol in 1962. After moving to Güzelyurt (Morfou) from Limassol, he is one of the four formers of Güzelyurt Art Association (GÜSAD) in 1983. Later in 1990, he has married and moved to Kyrenia where he will be the pioneer for the foundation of Kyrenia Municipality Theatre Studio (GIBETSU).

 He worked as director in 2006 – 2007 in the Cyprus Turkish State Theatre. He is still working as general art director in GIBETSU. He has been assisting Olive Festival at top level and he is one of the members of panel of jurors for the olive featured cartoon contest which is organized by Kyrenia Municipality. He is married with one daughter.

ERDOĞAN KARAYEL (GERMANY)

INTERNATIONAL JURY MEMBER

Born in Istanbul, Turkey in 1956. Have been drawing cartoons since 1976. Grauduatet from M.Ü. Fine Arts Faculty in Istanbul, Graphic Arts Section. (1976 – 1982) Have worked from 1977 on, in both Graphics and Cartoons for weekly Humor Magazine (Çarsaf, Ses, Girgir)

 Published cartoon albums: “Renk-Leke-Cizgi”, “En Gurbettekiler” “Bir Warmis Bir Yokmus”, “Hans and Hasan”, “Siyah-Beyaz Ofkelerim.”

 8 personal, 15 group exhibitions. My works were exhibited and awarded in West Germany, Japan, Canada, Italy, Bulgaria, Yugoslavia, Turkey. I have won 39 prizes. I am "Don Quichotte" Humor Magazin's Chef.

HÜSEYİN ÇAKMAK (CYPRUS)

INTERNATIONAL JURY MEMBER

He was born in 1964 in Nicosia – Cyprus. He started drawing cartoons in 1976 under the influence of the “Gır-Gır” Humour Magazine in Turkey. His cartoons have been published in various newspapers and magazines in Cyprus as well as in many countries of the world since 1983.

He is one of the five founding members of the “Cypriot Turkish Cartoonists’ Association” which was established in 1986. Since then, he has been the President of this Association. His works have been exhibited in more than 60 countries and they have been published in international cartoon albums.

He has won 115 prizes in various national and international cartoon contests and has many times been elected the “Cartoonist of the Year”. He has been the president of the Cyprus Turkish Cartoonists’ Association for 23 years.

M. SERHAN GAZİOĞLU (CYPRUS)

INTERNATIONAL JURY MEMBER

He was born in the old City of Famagusta on 12 March 1950 and had the first seven years of his childhood in this town. Moved to Nicosia in 1957 because of his father’s duty. Completed his elementary and secondary school education in Nicosia. His interest on cartton art arose during those years. His years in İstanbul Technical University (1969 – 1975) he dealt with cartoons and his first work was published in “Akbaba” Humor-Cartoon Magazine in 1975.

His works were exhibited in many national and international exhibitions worldwide and published in the albums prepared for these occasions. Founder member of Cypriot Turkish Cartoonists’ Association and holds the international press card of FECO. He is an architect and a member of the Turkish Cypriot Union of Chambers of Engineers and Architects.

He acted as juror in the national and international cartoon contest organized in Cyprus. Currently, he works as freelance architect. He was awarded numerous prizes in the cartoon contest. He is the Secretary General of the Cypriot Turkish Cartoonists’ Association.

MARILENA NARDI (ITALY)

INTERNATIONAL JURY MEMBER

 She was born in 1966 in Chiampo, near Vicenza (İtalia). After getting the degree in art in 1986 and in sculpture in 1990, she started teaching.

 She has been teaching Artistic Anatomy at the Academy of Fine Arts in Venice since 1992 and also Illustration since 2003.

 She is also interested in Humour Graphic art. Since 1984 she has participated in hundreds of exhibitions of humour graphic and illustration in Italy and in the world. She has been awarded a large number of prizes. Some of her works are present in the following museums of humour art: Bajardo, Bronzolo, Tolentino, Istanbul, Tehran and Zemun.

MASSOUD SHOJAI TABATABAI (IRAN)

INTERNATIONAL JURY MEMBER

Born in Teheran in 1964. Graduated from the college of Fine Arts of Teheran University in painting, senior conclusive proficiency in graphic of teacher training university.

 He is director of “Iranian House of Cartoon”. Member of the Asian – Pacific Animation and Comics Association (Dr. John A. Lent is the Editor in Chief); Program Development of The First Greekartoon Cartoon Contest in Greece 2006. Member of the Asian-Pacific Animation and Comics Association (Drexel Hill, PA 19026 – USA) Editor of Asian Section in World Comics Books.

 Prizes of success in Aydın Doğan Cartoon Contest in Turkey 1997; First Prize of the Press Festival in Cartoon in Iran 1995; First Prize of International Syria Cartoon Contest in Syria 2006; Silver Medal of the First International Olympic Cartoon Contest in China 2007.

MUSA KAYRA (CYPRUS)

INTERNATIONAL JURY MEMBER

Musa Kayra started drawing cartoons in 1979. His caricatures were published in magazines and newspapers; Yeni Düzen, Söz, Kurtuluş, Kıbrıs Postası, Akrep, Ortam, Halkın Sesi, Olay, Kıbrıs Sanat, Toplum Postası (London), Avrupa, Afrika.

He exhibited his own cartoons in Bremen (Germany) once, in Cyprus twelve times; and in England five times. His cartoons were among the works which were subsequently published in a book form. In 1973, he made a short cartoon animated film in Turkey. He published the cartoon albums "Cizzzgiciklar" in 1983 and “Karikayra” in 2005.

In 1986, with five other friends, he founded the Cyprus Turkish Cartoonists’ Association and has long been the General Secretary of the Association. He has won 50 prizes in various national and international cartoon contests.

MUSTAFA TOZAKI (CYPRUS)

INTERNATIONAL JURY MEMBER

Mustafa Tozakı was born in Aybifan – Solya (Lefka) in 1957. He started drawing cartoons in 1982. His cartoons were displayed in many international cartoon festivals in many countries besides Cyprus.

 He has been “Member of the Jury” in various national and international cartoon contests. He was elected the cartoonist of the year many times and won numerous awards in national and international cartoon contests.

 He is currently drawing cartoons for the Yeni Düzen and Havadis newspapers. He is also a member of the Board of Directors of Cypriot Turkish Cartoonists Association.

NATASA S. KOSTOVSKA (MACEDONIA)

INTERNATIONAL JURY MEMBER

Natasa S. Kostovska was born in 1956 at Skopje (Macedonia). She got her diploma of Art Historian at the University of Skopje. As professional cartoonist, she has worked at the last twenty years.

 She was the director for the cartoons in the comical and satirical review “Osten” and director of the World Cartoon Gallery at Skopje.

 Also, she is active as art – graphical editor and illustrator of the books and magazines for children and already has published a few of them. As the result of many years of her working for “Osten”, she published a book with her own cartoons about political events in Macedonia.

 She took part at many domestic and international cartoon exhibitions and won a lot of awards: Second Prize at the International Cartoon Festival “Golden Helmet”; Grand Prize at the International “Golden Smile” Cartoon Exhibition at Belgrade (Serbia & Montenegro).

SEVCAN ÇERKEZ (CYPRUS)

INTERNATIONAL JURY MEMBER

Sevcan Çerkez was born in Nicosia in 1961. She completed her primary, secondary and high school education in Nicosia as well. She is a painter, a cartoonist and a ceramic artist. Her daily cartoons were published in the Yeni Duzen newspaper between 2002 and 2004.

She is a member of the Board of Directors of the Cypriot Turkish Cartoonists’ Association and has participated in various cartoon exhibitions. She is also a ceramic artist who is making human-sized ceramic sculptures.

Having worked in various international ceramics workshops, she has been exhibiting her ceramic sculptures in real environments.
